Creating links and QR codes
Make a link
In the console open Zingalinks → Links → New link and paste the destination.
Everything else is optional:
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Destination URL | Where the link sends people. Editable later. |
| Custom slug | The bit after the domain. Leave it blank for a generated one. |
| Title | A label for your own list — never shown to visitors. |
| Domain | The shared zngl.ink host, or one of your own (paid plans). |
| Tags | For filtering your list later. |
| UTM parameters | Appended to the destination so your analytics tool sees the campaign. |
| Expiry | Optional. Links never expire unless you set a date. |
A generated slug is short and unguessable, which is what you want for links
you send to individuals. A custom slug is what you want for print, radio or
anything a person has to type — zngl.ink/spring-sale reads well out loud.
Slugs are unique per domain: zngl.ink/sale and go.yourbrand.com/sale are two
different links. A slug that is already taken is rejected rather than silently
changed.
Re-point, pause or retire a link
Open a link and edit it:
- Change the destination — the short URL and any printed QR stay valid. This
is the whole point of a dynamic link. - Disable it — the short URL stops resolving, but the link and its history
stay in your account. Use it to pull a link out of circulation. - Archive it — hides it from your working list.
- Delete it — the short URL stops resolving for good.
The slug itself cannot be changed. A printed or shared link must not start
pointing at something else because someone renamed it; make a new link instead.
QR codes
Every link has a QR code — there is no separate "QR object" to manage. Open a
link and choose QR, then download it as:
- PNG at any size from 64 to 2000 pixels, for slides and web use, or
- SVG, which scales to any size without blurring — use this for print,
labels, packaging and signage.
You can set the foreground and background colours to match your brand. Keep the
contrast strong: light-on-dark works, low-contrast does not.
Scans are counted separately from clicks, so you can tell how much of a
campaign's traffic came from the printed piece versus the emailed link.
Practical notes for print:
- Test the actual printed size with two or three phones before a long run.
- Leave the quiet zone (the white margin) intact — cropping it breaks scanning.
- Because the destination is editable, the same printed code can serve next
year's campaign.
Links ZingaConnect creates
When ZingaConnect sends an email, SMS or WhatsApp message it rewrites the URLs
inside into Zingalinks so it can report clicks. Those links appear under the
crm source, kept apart from your own so your list stays readable — switch the
source filter to see them.
