Custom domains

By default short links live on the shared zngl.ink host. On a paid plan
(Starter and above) you can serve them from your own host instead —
go.yourbrand.com/spring-sale — which typically lifts click-through, because
people trust a domain they recognise.

Choosing a host

Use a subdomain you are not using for anything else, such as:

go.yourbrand.com
link.yourbrand.com
l.yourbrand.com

Do not use your main website host: the short-link host answers every path at its
root, so it cannot share a name with your site.

Adding it

  1. Open Zingalinks → Domains → Add domain and enter the host.
  2. It is created in the pending state and shown with the DNS record it needs.
  3. Add that record at your DNS provider (the same place you manage your website's
    records).
  4. Come back and verify. Once the record resolves, the domain flips to active
and you can select it when creating links.

DNS changes can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours to propagate. A
domain that is still pending simply cannot be selected yet; nothing breaks.

A host can only be claimed by one workspace — an attempt to add one that is
already in use is rejected.

Living with several domains

  • Each domain has its own slug namespace, so zngl.ink/sale and
    go.yourbrand.com/sale are independent links.
  • Pick the domain when you create a link; it cannot be moved afterwards, because
moving it would change the short URL. Create a new link on the new domain (and
disable the old one) if you need to switch.
  • Removing a domain stops its links resolving. Keep it in place while any printed
    material is still in circulation.
